LAM
CHUN FAI SIFU'S HONG KONG SEMINARS 2003
Hung
Gar Master Lam Chun Fai, the son of Hung Gar Grand Master
Lam Cho, recently completed a highly successful seminars at
his home city, Hong Kong. The seminars, conducted over two
separate days, 19-20 February 2003, were held at a sport center
located in North Point/Hong Kong and had a big turn out of
hung gar instructors and students from many different countries
around the world including; USA, Germany, Canada, Italy, Netherlands,
England, France and of course Hong Kong. There were many Hung
Gar schools from around the world which took part in the seminars
including, George Kikes 's Lam Family Tiger & Crane School
(USA), Michael Goodwin's San Francisco Hung Gar Kung Fu Association(USA),
Don Hamby's School Of Tiger & Crane (USA), Eddie Lane's
Tiger Crane School (USA), Massimo Innaccone's Italian Academy
Hung Gar Kung Fu (Italy), Andreas Garski's German Hung Gar
Kung Fu Association (Germany), Jesse Gooding's Lam Family
Hung Kuen School (Canada).
Each seminar was followed by
a banquet at a restaurant located in North Point where the
participants from different parts of the world got to know
each other better and had the opportunity to ask Lam Chun
Fai sifu even more questions on different aspects of Hung
Gar gung fu. One of the main highlights of the seminars was
Grandmaster Lam Cho's visit to oversee the seminar.
Day One
The first day of the seminar
was focused on the "Lau Gar Kuen" empty hand set
and its applications. The seminar began at 3 pm on Wednesday
19th of February 2003, and lasted 3 hours. During the first
half of this seminar, Lam Chun Fai sifu taught the entire
"Lau Gar Kuen" set step by step, explaining each
movement and making corrections as the day progressed.
After going through the whole set,
the seminar proceeded with the fighting application of the
techniques and their usage. The participants had the opportunity
to ask Lam Chun Fai sifu questions on specific movements found
in the set as well as their underlying principles. Over all
the first day of the seminar was an invaluable and truly and
exciting experience for all to be learning directly from Lam
Chun Fai sifu himself. The seminar ended with a photo session.
Following the seminar was an excellent banquet of Chinese
food and delicacies. The entire day was full of learning,
discipline and fun which continued late into the evening.
Day Two
The
second day of the seminar was even more rewarding. On day
two, Lam Chun Fai sifu mainly focused on the "Gung Gee
Fook Fu Kuen" empty hand set and its application. Gung
Gee is the oldest and one of the most important sets of the
traditional Hung Gar system. The seminar began with going
through the Lau Gar Kuen set one more time. The remaining
part of the seminar was focused on Gung Gee Fook Fu Kuen.
Step by step, Lam sifu taught the entire first half of this
form, thoroughly enplaning each posture and ensuring each
and everyone of the students had a good understanding of this
important set.
The high point of the seminar was the visit of Grandmaster
Lam Cho. Accompanied with his daughter and youngest son Lam
Chun Sing sifu, Lam Cho sigung made his presence during the
second half of the seminar. The participants were thrilled
to see the living legend of hung gar, grandmaster Lam Cho
at the seminar and train under his presence. The seminar continued
under the watchful eyes of Lam Cho sigung. After completing
the first half the Gung Gee set, Lam Chun Fai sifu then demonstrated
the fighting application of this famed set and answered the
students questions.
The participants were
especially over the moon when Lam Cho sigung himself began
explaining the important fundamental principals of hung
gar and their usage. Despite his advance age of 93, grandmaster
with grace and unbelievable power showed how certain techniques
are applied. The participants were truly stunned with grandmaster's
speed, strength and vigor as well as his graceful, powerful
yet straight to the point way of applying each technique.
This was indeed an unforgetable experience for all the participants
of the seminar. The seminar concluded with all the participants
taking group and individual photos with Granadmaster Lam
Cho, Lam Chun Fai sifu and Lam Chun Sing sifu.

After the seminar everyone joined
Grandmaster Lam Cho and his son Lam Chun Fai for a great banquet
of delicious chinese food. Overall the seminar was a great
sucess and an unfergotable experience for all. The plans for
hosting more seminars in Hong Kong next year is already underway.
